Ring Size Guide

A well-fitted ring should feel secure and comfortable. It should slide over the knuckle with gentle resistance, sit without pinching and not spin or slip off during normal wear. Vanior uses the Australian alphabetical sizing system, which is also commonly used in the United Kingdom and New Zealand. International conversions are approximate.

The Most Reliable Option

For an engagement ring, wedding ring, wide band, eternity design or made-to-order piece, professional sizing is strongly recommended. Ask a reputable jeweller to measure the intended finger and tell them the approximate width and style of the ring you plan to order.

Method One: Measure a Ring That Already Fits

  1. Choose a round ring that fits the correct finger comfortably. A ring worn on another finger or the opposite hand may be a different size.
  2. Place the ring on a flat surface and measure straight across the widest part of the opening, from inside edge to inside edge. Measure only the internal diameter, not the metal.
  3. Record the result in millimetres and compare it with the chart below. Repeat the measurement in a second direction to check that the ring is round.

Method Two: Measure Your Finger

  1. Use a narrow, non-stretch strip of paper or a flexible measuring tape. String can stretch or twist and is less reliable.
  2. Wrap it around the base of the intended finger so it is comfortably snug and can still pass over the knuckle.
  3. Mark the exact overlap, lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimetres. This is the finger circumference.
  4. Repeat at least twice and compare the result with the chart. If the readings differ, contact Vanior before ordering.

Tips for a Better Measurement

  • Measure the exact finger on which the ring will be worn; fingers can differ between hands.
  • Measure when your hands are at a normal, comfortable temperature. Avoid measuring immediately after exercise, in very hot or cold conditions, or when your fingers are swollen.
  • Measure at two or three times during the day. Finger size changes with temperature, hydration and time of day.
  • Allow for the knuckle. The ring must pass over it without being so loose that it turns or slips.
  • Wide bands and several rings worn together usually feel firmer than a narrow single band. Ask Vanior whether a larger size is appropriate for the design.
  • If your measurement falls between sizes, do not guess for a custom or made-to-order ring. Send Vanior the diameter or circumference and the ring style for advice.

Ring Size Conversion Chart

Use the closest inside measurement as a guide. The US values are approximate conversions. Ring mandrels, manufacturing tolerances and band profiles can produce small differences, so Vanior will confirm the final size for made-to-order work where needed.

If the Ring Is a Surprise

If possible, borrow a ring the recipient wears on the intended finger and measure its inside diameter. Choose a ring with a similar band width and shape. Do not rely only on an average size: fit varies between people, fingers and hands. Before ordering, check whether the selected design can be resized.

Resizing

Resizing depends on the design, metal, setting and amount of adjustment. Full-eternity bands, tension settings, intricate patterns, some stone-set bands and some metals may have limited or no resizing options. Resizing can also affect engraving, stone spacing or design proportions. Contact Vanior before ordering if future resizing is important. Any resizing service, fee and timeframe will be confirmed separately.

Ring Size Questions

What if I am between two sizes?

The right choice depends on the band width, knuckle and intended fit. A slightly larger size may be more comfortable in some designs, but contact Vanior before ordering a custom, wide or stone-set ring.

Do wide rings fit differently?

Yes. A wide band or several rings worn together can feel tighter than a narrow band in the same nominal size. Vanior can advise after reviewing the design and your measurement.

Are ring sizes universal?

No. Australia, the United Kingdom and New Zealand commonly use letters, while the United States and other regions use different systems. Use the inside diameter or circumference in millimetres when requesting a conversion.

Can every Vanior ring be resized?

No. Resizing suitability varies by design and material. Ask before purchase, especially for eternity, tension-set, patterned, engraved or highly stone-set rings.
